It’s never too late! Once postpartum, always postpartum
Mamas typically schedule their pelvic floor “6-week follow-up” about a week after their OB or Midwife check-up. OB/midwife appointments are usually brief and general. Pelvic floor physical therapy offers a more in-depth, personalized assessment. During our one-hour session, we assess pelvic floor muscle tone, strength, and endurance, check for any scar tissue, and evaluate the abdominal wall for separation (diastasis recti). Based on what we find, we provide individualized exercises and guidance to support your recovery. This level of care is actually standard in other countries—new mothers in France, for example, receive 10 to 20 visits with a pelvic floor physical therapist after giving birth!
